Effgill is a traditional hill farm breeding North Country Cheviot sheep, We use traditional shepherding techniques to encourage our sheep to stay on the ground they were born rather than use fences which are expensive to maintain and prevent the sheep from finding some of the herbs they rely on for good health in an extensive environment.

Regular shepherding also helps to avoid areas of local over grazing and undergrazing ensuring there is a diverse environment for ground nesting birds in spring and early summer.
